Company History
Fan Equipment Co., Inc. was originally founded and established as “Fan Engineering Co.” by Philip J. Siegel in April of 1967.
Philip J. Siegel was born in Havana, Cuba in 1920. He fled Cuba as a young teenager and proudly became a United States citizen. He put himself through high school and college without having his family present in the U.S. until later in his life. He worked his way through college as a sheet metal worker then as a superintendent of an air conditioning company. He received his Mechanical Engineering degree at the Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne Indiana where he became especially interested in fan engineering. While in Indiana, he met the love of his life, Jeanne L. Grubb.
They moved to California where Philip started his career with Master Fan Corporation in 1946. After ten years, he was promoted to Vice-President and General Manager. Philip and Jeanne believed that they could start their own fan company and do it successfully.
In April of 1967, they established the Fan Engineering Company in Baldwin Park, California. By the mid-1970’s the company had moved to South El Monte, California. Philip Siegel hired 10-15 new employees as well as employing several of his own children.
In 1974, Tim Harris, a native of Nevada who studied Business at Arizona State University, married one of Philip Siegel’s daughters, Connie. In 1976, Tim was hired by Philip Siegel and moved to California to begin his career at Fan Engineering Co. as a shop supervisor. After mastering all the products, equipment, and positions in the factory, he was promoted to Management.
In 1985, Philip Siegel passed away and Tim purchased the business from the Siegel family to continue Philip’s legacy. He continued to grow the company with successful business practices and more than doubled the size of the company. In 1997, he moved the company to Nevada where he had a new building designed and constructed. Fifty-two of his employees followed him to Las Vegas. During this move
a name change ensued and the “Fan Engineering Co, Inc.” name was retired. The current “Fan Equipment Co., Inc.” name was born. Fan Equipment grew to fifty-six employees in 1997.
Tim continued to grow the company to become one of the most competitive fan companies in the United States. As the company grew, Fan Equipment began shipping beyond the United States. You can find Fan Equipment fans in Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America, Australia, China, and the Middle East.
In August 2022, Tim Harris retired and sold the company to his son, Mike Harris. Mike began his career in 1995 with Fan Equipment Co., Inc. In 2005, he became a firefighter for the City of North Las Vegas. Always showing an interest in the company while growing up, he continued his knowledge by learning the products, equipment, and while working at several positions within the company. His education and experience in college as a business major and as a leader in the fire department earned him promotions throughout various departments at Fan Equipment. In 2018, he was promoted to Vice-President/Operations Director. Mike became the President/Owner in September of 2022 and the third generation to continue the legacy that had been well established by Philip Siegel & Tim Harris.
Throughout the years Fan Equipment Co., Inc. has seen many changes. One thing that has not changed is our philosophy, quality products, and customer service. We will continue to evolve, striving to design and build the highest quality heavy duty air-moving equipment on the market with quick lead times and 24-hour customer care.
